How Much Allah Gives
One tiny seed of good can grow into seven hundred — and that is just the beginning. A chapter about how generous Allah is, how many His blessings are, and how He chose you on purpose.
Allah's Words — Chapter 3 of 7
How Much Allah Gives
Let us talk about giving — and about the most generous Giver there has ever been.
In this chapter we are going to see a side of Allah that will make you smile: how much He loves to give, and how He turns even the smallest good thing into something huge.
One Seed Becomes Seven Hundred
Imagine you plant a single seed of grain in the ground.
If it grows into one plant with one ear of grain, you might get, say, a hundred little grains from that one seed. Not bad! But listen to the beautiful picture Allah paints in the Qur’an about a person who gives even a little bit of good for His sake.
Allah says such a person is like someone who plants one seed — and from that one seed grows a plant with seven ears. And in each ear there are a hundred grains. Count it up: seven ears, a hundred grains each. That is seven hundred grains from a single seed!
And then Allah says something even more wonderful: “And Allah gives even more, to whom He wills.”
So here is the lesson. When you do one small good thing — you share your snack, you help your mum, you say a kind word, you give a coin to someone in need — do not think it is tiny. In Allah’s hands, one small seed of goodness can grow and grow, seven hundred times over, and more. Nothing good you do is ever wasted. Ever.
A Language for “How Much”
Here is a little wonder about the Arabic of the Qur’an.
In English, we usually have just two forms of a word: one thing, or many things. One apple, many apples. That is it.
But classical Arabic is richer. For some words it has three forms: one, a few, and a huge, huge amount. It is as if the language itself has a special word just for “so many you could never count them.”
Why does that matter? Because when Allah talks about His blessings — all the good gifts He gives us — He uses that “so many you cannot count” form. The Qur’an says: “If you tried to count the blessings of Allah, you could never number them.”
Stop and think about that for a moment. Your eyes that see. Your ears that hear. The air you are breathing right now, without even trying. The people who love you. The food, the water, the sky, your own beating heart. If you tried to make a list of Allah’s gifts to you, you would never, ever reach the end. That is how generous your Creator is.
Hurry Toward the Good
Because Allah is so generous, the Qur’an gets us excited to run toward good things.
It does not say, “Take your time, stroll slowly toward goodness.” It uses eager, energetic words. In one place it tells us to rush toward Allah’s forgiveness. In another, it tells us to race toward it — like runners in a race, leaning forward, giving it everything, wanting to be first.
Race toward what? Toward forgiveness, toward doing good, toward a Paradise “as wide as the heavens and the earth.” Allah is basically saying: “Look how much good is on offer! Do not walk — run!”
Allah Chose You
Now here is something that might surprise you. Did you know that Allah chose you?
The Qur’an uses a special word for a very particular kind of choosing — the kind where someone is picked carefully, on purpose, because they are wanted. And Allah uses that word for the believers. He chose you to know Him. He chose you to be guided. Out of all the things you could have been, He picked your heart to receive His words.
You are not here by accident. You were chosen, on purpose, by the One who made the whole universe. Is that not a beautiful thing to carry in your heart?
A Friend Who Protects
Let us end with two of Allah’s beautiful qualities, hidden in two Arabic words.
The Qur’an calls Allah our wali and our mawla. A wali is a close friend who truly wants to protect you — someone on your side, who cares. And a mawla is the One who actually does protect you, who really has the power to keep you safe.
Allah is both. He is the Friend who wants only good for you, and the Powerful One who can actually make it happen. What a thing to have on your side!
And here is one last gentle secret. When the Qur’an lists Allah’s beautiful names, it often puts His love and care first, and His forgiveness after. It is as if Allah is showing us the order of His heart: mercy leads the way. He loves you first. He cares for you first. And He is always, always ready to forgive.
So never think you are too small to matter, or that your little good deeds do not count. You were chosen by the most generous Giver in all of existence — the One who turns one seed into seven hundred, whose blessings you could never count, and whose mercy always comes first.
“And if you should count the favours of Allah, you could not enumerate them. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.” — Qur’an 16:18
